Moebius Project: art workshops for international students

International-Europe Article published on 02 March 2021 , Updated on 08 March 2021

In response to the 2020 Buddy Programme Call for Projects, organised by the International Welcome Desk of Paris-Saclay University, the student association MOCA of the UVSQ created the Moebius Project: art workshops for international students participating in the Buddy Programme. Singing, music, writing... All means are good for students to express themselves on the topic of "creative diversity"!

What is the Moebius Project?

The association describes it as a participative cultural and artistic project organised by students of the MOCA and MCO Master's of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University. The goal is to carry out a collaborative and creative work through art workshops led by professionnal artists. The purpose of the association MOCA is for students of the MOCA Master's of the UVSQ to create, develop and promote artistic and cultural projects.

Collaborative and intercultural workshops

Both international students of Paris-Saclay University and young students of the AFEV Yvelines are involved in this project. With the support of artists from the Lieu, a space for creation located in Gambais (78), they create works of art in small groups, based on the type of art they chose and the topic of diversity. The participants who chose singing, for example, wrote lyrics using French expressions that cannot be translated literally and reveal the specificities of the French language. The song is then set to music by the artist and sung by the whole group.

The other groups, who chose graphic arts or photography, also create their own works, which will be presented during an exhibition.

Closing events: exhibition and mural painting

After the art workshops, MOCA is planning two events: an exhibition with the art works of the participant and a collaborative mural, if the health situation allows it. The exhibition will take place at the Student Centre Marta Pan, on the Guyancourt campus of the UVSQ and will be presented online if the public cannot visit it. All students will have the opportunity to participate in the mural painting, even if they did not attend the workshops, but there is a limited number of spots. Follow the Facebook page of Project Moebius to receive all the informations on both events!
